Today was my first time trying Brazillian Jiu Jitzu. It was so much fun!!

Thank you to Will Blunderfield for introducing me to the beautiful martial art.

I went to Gracie Barra on Main and Broadway in Vancouver. 7am-8am Class

“BJJ is founded on the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent.”

BENEFITS:

  1. Weight Loss

  2. Self-Defence

  3. Stree Release

  4. Make Friends

  5. Energizing

  6. Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

  7. Humility & Patience

  8. Self Awareness

  9. Fun!!

Personal Review:

  1. The people are fantastic - very kind, welcoming, and take that extra time to explain to beginngers.

    1. The teachers AND the other participants.

    2. The man I partnered with honestly made the experience, he really made the extra effort to explain everything to me. (sorry for getting hair in your mouth…) It is a veryyyy close “sport”.

      1. Its great because it’s uncomfotable working with strangers that close.. especailly when they’re basically sitting on you and vice vera. But it is fantastic to prepare you if that situation were to ever occur. You would be confident and not in shock. (Part of the reason why I do cold plunges.)

  2. There are Womans classes, although personally I enjoy working with men. I think as a small girl it is important to learn self-defence, especially practicing with men because I think if I were to be in any threatening situation, the person will probably be a larger man… not saying anything, but just being realistic.

  3. It can build cardio, strength, although most importantly is a mental game.

    1. You’re working and building a strategy.

  4. It could save your life.

  5. There is so much room to grow and progress! That is usually what is most interesting to me across the board. I love the challenge, and the ability to always be improving. I get quite bored if there is no room to progress. I honestly never want to be the best in the room.

I strongly encourage you to give it a try! At least once!!
